Cap for pinning your ears down

Got protruding ears? If you are Prince Charles, Barack Obama or Dumbo the elephant it might be considered part of your character. What if you are a girl? How embarrassing! Here is the solution from an advertisement in The Illustrated London News from 1893. With the size of hats then you could easily hide the cap which clearly was not a fashion statement. The price was quite steep at 3s 6p; it was over a third of a barmaid's weekly salary (no tips then and now in England!).
How does it prevent disfigurement in "after life" - can you prevent big ears in your next life?
I agree this is bizarre. I did not do a Photoshop on this. I am not that clever. It comes from The Illustrated London News November 25 1893 page 558. I was about to send it to Jay Leno but they only accept originals and I am not about to part with my original!
This site has a picture of the device. The picture is of the improved device after 1925 (price went to 5 shillings) Apparently you wore it to bed and not during the day and it was for children. The advertisement is not clear about that!
This site has an article from a medical journal of the day commending the use of this gadget for children.
