Young Girls - Old Hats?

This is a fun picture I purchased recently. The picture had the look and feel of an early 1920s photograph. I am a bit mystified here. Well I am blonde - LOL.

The girls are very young - 14 or 15, or younger, by the look of them. The hats are definitely Edwardian - big bold and beautiful. Is it possible then that they are wearing their mother's hats or their grandmother's hats. Perhaps it's a gag? There's a lot of laughing going on. Better not get caught. Who took the photograph?

The car really threw me off. I am not an automobile expert but I have a general idea. I know that old cars were called horseless carriages. According to the link I referenced there were about 1000 manufacturers in the early period before the First World War. The cars did look like motorized carriages just like the wonderful car in the background in this picture. It looks more upscale than the famous Ford Model T.

There are a couple of automobiles that look similar to the one in the picture on this site. By the way I love the Internet - it's way easier than the old days when we had to go to the library to get this information.

Well does anybody reading this have any information?
