Young Mother with baby and fancy hat

This is a picture sent to me from Sarah who writes the Victorian Times blog. What a cheeky baby - it is quite a thought that the baby has grown up and passed away - so long ago. The Mother has a very interesting hat with a lot of ribbons and what appears to be a stuffed bird. If you open the picture in a new window you can see it better. There was a backlash against this use (abuse) of dead birds and exotic feathers as hat adornments and I will be writing about this topic in a future post. The picture looks to be late 19th century/ early 20th century - the late part of Queen Victoria's reign.

Thanks Sarah for sending me the interesting picture.
